A complete cat litter production line is an integrated system designed to convert diverse raw materials—such as bentonite, plant fibers, and synthetic silica gel—into uniform, hygienic, and high-performance cat litter pellets.
This is accomplished through a sequenced process that includes raw material cleaning, crushing, drying, conditioning (primarily for mineral materials), pelletizing, cooling, screening, and packaging.
The primary aim is to transform powdery or fibrous materials into a standardized, low-dust, and commercially viable product that excels in clumping, odor control, and absorbency, making it easy to package, transport, and use for pet owners.

Raw material cleaning

The newly delivered cat litter raw materials contain various impurities (such as hemp ropes, stones, iron scraps, and sand particles). It is necessary to use cleaning screens and permanent magnet separators to remove these impurities from the raw materials, effectively preventing damage to subsequent equipment including crushers, conveying systems, and pellet mill molds.
Crushing

The cleaned raw materials are processed by a hammer mill into fine powder with uniform particle size that meets pelletizing requirements. A consistent raw material particle size ensures a homogeneous internal structure in the final cat litter pellets, guaranteeing excellent water absorption and clumping performance.
Drying

The drying process aims to control the moisture content of raw materials between 12% and 18%. A hot-blast stove generates hot air, which is delivered to the drying drum by an induced draft fan. When the drying drum rotates, it continuously lifts the materials, ensuring full contact between the materials and hot air to guarantee the drying effect.
Conditioning

The production of bentonite cat litter typically requires conditioning of the mineral raw material. Inside the conditioner, a precise and uniform amount of water is sprayed onto the bentonite powder while being thoroughly mixed.
The bentonite expands significantly upon contact with water, forming a viscous substance that not only facilitates subsequent pellet formation but also optimizes and stabilizes the clumping performance of the cat litter.
Pelletilizing

Raw materials enter the pellet machine through the feed hopper and are drawn into the narrow compression area between the rollers and the ring die, where immense mechanical pressure forces raw materials through the die holes. Finally, a cutter trims the extruded material into cylindrical pellets of preset length.
Cooling

The newly compressed cat litter pellets are characterized by high temperature, significant moisture content, and soft texture, necessitating a cooling process before storage. These freshly formed pellets are conveyed into a counterflow cooler, where moisture is evaporated to reduce the final water content to 10%-12%.
Screening

The cooled pellets then proceed to a vibrating screen, which separates the qualified pellets from the fine powder and broken fragments generated during the production process.
The qualified pellets are transferred to the finished product bin, while the fine powder is returned via a conveyor to the pelletizer for reuse in the pelletizing process. Oversized particles or debris are sent back to the crusher for reprocessing.
Packaging

The screened finished pellets are automatically weighed to a preset weight, bagged, and sealed using a fully automatic packaging machine. Depending on the type of packaging bag selected by the customer, the sealing method can be either heat sealing or thread sewing.
