How the Fish Feed Extruder Machine Works
The core working principle of a fish feed extruder machine lies in converting powdery raw materials (fish meal, meat and bone meal, corn flour, soybean meal, etc.) into pellets through “high temperature, high pressure, extrusion, and high shear force”, making the feed more suitable for fish consumption and more resistant to soaking.
Here’s how the fish feed extruder works.
First , the crushed and mixed raw materials are fed into the inlet and evenly conveyed to the conditioner by a screw conveyor for pretreatment.
Next, the materials are thoroughly blended with steam and water in the conditioner. Under high temperature and humidity, sterilization, cooking, and gelatinization are achieved, enhancing the digestibility, absorption rate, and safety of the feed, making it more suitable for fish consumption.
Then, the conditioned materials enter the extrusion barrel, undergoing a crucial structural modification process. Driven mechanically by the screw, the materials experience intense extrusion, shearing, and friction, leading to a rapid rise in temperature and a sharp increase in pressure. Under these conditions, the materials are further cooked and completely transformed into a paste.
Finally, the high-temperature, high-pressure paste is forced through the die holes. At the moment of extrusion, the external pressure drops abruptly to ambient levels, causing the moisture inside the material to instantly vaporize and evaporate.
This results in a porous, loose structure, significant volume expansion, and reduced density, forming floating, slow-sinking, or sinking pellets.

The fish feed pellets are then cooled to remove excess moisture, stabilize their structure, and facilitate storage and feeding.
