Process of Wood Pellet Production Line
A complete wood pellet production line is an integrated system designed to convert raw biomass materials—such as sawdust, wood chips, agricultural straw, and other forestry or agricultural residues—into uniform, high-density wood pellets. This is accomplished through a sequenced process that includes raw material preparation, chipping, crushing, drying, pelletizing, cooling, screening, and packaging.
The primary aim is to transform bulk biomass into a standardized, clean-burning, and commercially viable solid bio-fuel that is easy to handle, transport, and store.

Raw Material Preparation

As the first process of the production line, this section is mainly responsible for stripping the bark from logs. For over-sized logs, they need to be split first to make their size suitable for the chipper’s feeding requirements.
Chipping

The chipping section cuts wood raw materials into wood chips with a length of less than 3 cm. This step is the primary crushing of raw materials, facilitating the subsequent feeding of crushed materials into the grinder for secondary crushing.
Crushing

Feed the pre-treated wood chips into a crusher to grind them into a powdered form. This is a critical prerequisite for successful pelletizing, as the raw material particle size directly affects the pellet formation rate, quality, and the wear rate of the mold. The particle size is typically required to be below 3-5mm.
Drying

The drying process aims to control the moisture content of raw materials between 15% and 18%. A hot-blast stove generates hot air, which is delivered to the drying drum by an induced draft fan. When the drying drum rotates, it continuously lifts the materials, ensuring full contact between the materials and hot air to guarantee the drying effect.
Pelletizing

The dried raw materials are put into the screw feeder hopper. The hopper is equipped with an anti-bridging device, which continuously stirs the materials to prevent caking.
The head of the pellet mill is equipped with a forced feeder, which can push the materials into the pelletizing chamber by force. After entering the pelletizing chamber, the wood raw materials are extruded and shaped into dense pellets.
Cooling

The newly compressed wood pellets are characterized by high temperature, significant moisture content, and soft texture, necessitating a cooling process before storage.
These freshly formed pellets are conveyed into a counter-flow cooler, where moisture is evaporated to reduce the final water content to 10%-12%.
Screening

The cooled pellets then proceed to a vibrating screen, which separates the qualified pellets from the fine powder and broken fragments generated during the production process.
The qualified pellets are transferred to the finished product bin, while the fine powder is returned via a conveyor to the pelletizer for reuse in the pelletizing process. Oversized particles or debris are sent back to the crusher for reprocessing.
Packaging

The screened finished pellets are automatically weighed to a preset weight, bagged, and sealed using a fully automatic packaging machine. Depending on the type of packaging bag selected by the customer, the sealing method can be either heat sealing or thread sewing.

Debarking Machine
The debarking machine is mainly used to remove bark from logs. In the wood pellet production line, the log debarking machine is located in the front-end raw material pretreatment section.
Its working principle primarily involves creating intense friction and collision between logs and the machine, or between logs themselves, thereby stripping bark from the logs. Debarked logs can be sent to the wood chipper for chipping.

Wood Chipper
The chipper is a key pre-processing equipment in wood pellet production lines, primarily used for the coarse crushing of logs and wood waste.
It processes large-sized logs, logging residues (branches, twigs), and processing residues (slats, slabs) into uniform wood chips approximately 3 cm in thickness and diameter, providing standardized raw material for subsequent grinding processes.

Drop Type Hammer Mill
Our hammer mill is specifically designed for efficiently grinding various types of wood-based raw materials, offering superior quality. Its hammers are made from 45# steel, while the hammer tips utilize tungsten carbide material, providing exceptional wear resistance.
With an extra-wide grinding working surface and optimally arranged hammers, its crushing performance reaches new heights.

Rotary Drum Dryer
The dryer is designed to reduce the moisture content of materials to a stable range of 15%–18%, meeting the requirements for pellet formation. A fully pneumatic conveying system is used to discharge the material, enabling precise moisture control. Only materials meeting the required moisture standards are transported out by the airflow.
The dryer is accompanied by a control cabinet that allows real-time monitoring of temperature and drum rotation speed, ensuring simple and reliable operation.

Wood Pellet Mill
RICHI wood pellet mill is specifically engineered to compress various raw materials into high-density wood pellets. It integrates key components including an anti-bridging feed hopper, forced feeder, pelletizing chamber, cutting device, and fully automated control and lubrication systems.
Powered by a high-torque Siemens motor, the wood pellet mill ensures thorough material compression. Critical components such as the ring die, gears, and main shaft are made of 42CrMo material treated with carburizing heat treatment, providing exceptional wear resistance.

Counter-flow Cooler
The cooler adopts the counter-flow cooling principle. Cold air is drawn in from the bottom of the cooler and passes through the hot pellets from top to bottom, forming reverse heat exchange. This method prevents the pellets from cracking due to rapid cooling.
A top-mounted distributor ensures an even bed depth for uniform cooling. The unique octagonal cooling chamber, combined with a swing-type discharge device, not only enables complete residue-free discharge of materials but also achieves efficient and uniform cooling results.

Vibrating Screening
The vibrating screen is usually installed below the cooler, equipped with three layers of screens to separate finished pellets, powder, and large-sized particles. The separated powder and large-sized particles are recycled for secondary processing.
It adopts a self-balancing vibration method, featuring good screening effect, small volume, and stable operation. The internal streamlined design of the discharge port prevents material deposition and avoids cross-contamination.

Automatic Packing machine
The automatic packing machine consists of a feeding unit, a weighing hopper, a buffer device, and a bagging component. It is equipped with high-precision sensors and an intelligent control system.
It can automatically receive the finished pellets after cooling and screening, and perform accurate metering according to the preset rated weight with an error of ±0.2%. The sealing device can adopt heat-sealing or sewing methods according to the type of packaging bag selected by the customer.

Pulse Dust Collector
The pulse dust removal system serves as vital equipment to ensure safe operation and compliance with environmental standards.
The RICHI pulse dust collector can be equipped with 48 filter bags, achieving a dust removal efficiency of ≥99.5%, effectively capturing fine dust particles.
