Floating Fish Feed Plant Production Process
A typical floating fish feed processing plant operates as a continuous and precise production system. The entire process is designed to transform various raw materials into high-quality feed. This feed is nutritionally balanced, easily digestible, and able to float stably on water. The core workflow can be broken down into the following key stages:

Raw Material Cleaning
01
Use cleaning screens and magnetic separators to remove impurities (such as stones, metal scraps, and string) from the raw materials. This step protects downstream machinery and ensures the purity and safety of the final product.
Superfine Grinding
02
Feed grinder pulverizes the raw materials into a very fine powder. The particle size typically must pass through an 80-mesh sieve or finer. This fine grinding is essential for ensuring uniform expansion and good water stability of the feed.
Batching and Mixing
03
Batching scales precisely weigh the various ground ingredients according to the formula. These include main materials, vitamins, and mineral premixes.
Next, the ingredients are discharged into a high-efficiency mixer for thorough blending. This ensures every pellet contains a consistent and uniform nutritional profile.
Conditioning
04
The ground powder is fully mixed with water and steam. This process softens and gelatinizes the material. Simultaneously, it eliminates pathogens in the mix, thereby improving feed safety and digestibility.
Extrusion (Core Process)
05
The conditioned material enters a fish feed extruder. Here, it is forced through a die under conditions of high temperature, pressure, and shear. Upon exiting the die, the sudden pressure drop causes the material to expand rapidly, forming a porous structure.
Drying
06
Freshly extruded pellets have high moisture content (approximately 20-30%). Therefore, a dryer reduces the moisture to below 10-12%, which is necessary for long-term storage.
Coating
07
The dried pellets pass through a coating machine. Here, they are evenly coated with fat, flavor enhancers, heat-sensitive nutrients, etc. This step significantly improves the palatability and nutritional value of the feed.
Cooling
08
After coating, the pellets remain warm. A pellet cooler can bring them down to room temperature. This cooling process also helps solidify the pellet shape.
Crumble (Optional)
09
For smaller feed sizes (e.g., fry feed), a crumbler can break down larger pellets. The resulting material is then sent for grading.
Screening
10
A grading sieve separates oversized pellets, fine powder, or debris from the final product. Qualified pellets proceed to the next stage, while sub-standard material is recycled for reprocessing.
Packaging
11
Finally, the qualified finished feed is conveyed to an automatic packaging machine. It is precisely weighed, filled into bags, which are then sealed and labeled.

Frequently Asked Questions
We have compiled the most frequently asked questions from our global customers regarding the investment and construction of a floating fish feed plant. From formula adaptation to after-sales support, we have considered every step for you in advance. If your specific needs are not covered here, please feel free to contact our technical team for customized solutions.
–
How to ensure the floatability and water stability of the feed?
We will equip our client’ floating fish feed processing plant with the feed extruder machine. By precisely controlling the extrusion process parameters (such as conditioning temperature and extrusion pressure), and using a specialized binder formula, clients can achieve a stable feed floating rate of over 95%. Meanwhile it ensures that the feed retains its nutritional value even after soaking in water for 8-12 hours.
–
What raw materials can the feed plant process? Can it flexibly switch between different formulas?
The floating fish food plants we build for our clients can process common feed raw materials such as fish meal, soybean meal, corn, wheat bran, oil, and minerals. Equipped with an intelligent batching system, it supports one-click switching between different formulas.
–
How to prevent the loss of oil and heat-sensitive vitamins in fish feed?
We adopt post-spraying technology: after the feed is extruded and cooled, oil and heat-sensitive vitamins are evenly sprayed on the feed surface, which can reduce nutrient loss by more than 90%.
–
How many workers are needed for a floating fish feed factory?
For a factory with a medium-automation production line (8 hours of daily production), only 3-5 workers are needed (including batching, operation, and quality control positions). If a fully automated system is adopted, unattended operation can be realized, requiring only 1-2 inspection personnel.
–
When investing in a fish feed factory, can it produce floating, sinking, and slow-sinking feeds at the same time?
Our production line supports simultaneous production of floating, sinking, and slow-sinking feeds (achieved by adjusting extrusion pressure and raw material density). Equipped with multi-specification molds, it can produce a full range of products from 0.2mm fry micro-particles to 12mm adult fish large-particles.
–
Can you help me design a multi-functional feed factory that produces both aquatic extruded feed and poultry feed?
Yes. We will realize the co-line production of aquatic extruded feed and poultry feed through a zoned batching system, switchable conditioning/pelleting modules, and an independent finished product storage area, while avoiding cross-contamination of raw materials.
–
What is your warranty policy?
We provide a 1-year full-machine warranty, and faulty parts will be repaired or replaced free of charge during the warranty period. All core components (such as extruder screws, hammer blades of the crusher) have standing spare parts, which can be shipped within 24 hours.
–
Will you provide comprehensive training? What is the technical support model and response time after the warranty period?
We will provide on-site training for our clients’ staff (including production operations, equipment maintenance, and quality control testing) when we deliver the floating fish feed plant project.
We provide lifelong technical support to our clients. We have a 7×24 hour online response system to help you solve problems remotely. For major malfunctions, our engineers can arrive on-site within 48-72 hours (depending on visa and geographical location). (View our YouTube)
